Golden hour is a beautiful slice of day when the sun goes down, and casts a warm glow on the landscape. It's also a prime time for photo shoots! We were walking along the lake shore of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL for this couple's engagement session, and I knew I had to take advantage of the setting sun, but I wanted to try and be somewhat deliberate about it.
There were many people, sitting and enjoying the weather, biking, walking etc., and so I also had to be careful to not get any unnecessary distractions in the photo too.
While walking and talking with my couples, I hope that I don't come off as rude - but I'm usually looking around at my surroundings, rather than having direct eye contact. I'm listening - however I'm also waiting for that perfect spot to appear for my next photo.
And this near heart shaped tree popped out at the perfect time. The sun was glaring off the pond in the background, and also cast a beautiful glow on my couple. I placed them in front of a patch of trees in the distance so that the darker background would allow for their glowing silhouettes to appear better. And I just love the kiss of light peaking out from behind the base of the heart shaped tree here.
